




Kandhavelu Vaanavarayan (Rajinikanth) is like a local leader in his village near Pollachi. The villagers love and respect him. He lives with his grandparents. He insists that the villagers do not vote in the elections. Instead, he advises them to collect the money the representatives gave and use it for their basic amenities. Vallavaraayan (Napoleon) is Vaanavarayan's biggest enemy. Their hatred gets even stronger when Vaanavarayan marries Vaitheeswari (Meena), who Vallavaraayan also wants to marry. Vallavaraayan then makes the village temple priest add poison to the holy water that Vaitheeswari drinks. Because of this, she can never conceive. But surprisingly, Vaitheeswari gets pregnant. However, she pretends to be pregnant with the help of the village helper because she doesn't want people to think her husband can't have children. But she is very sad that she can't give her husband a child. During her baby shower, she drinks poison and kills herself. Before she dies, she makes Vaanavarayan promise to marry Ponni (Aishwarya).
