



Kamal Haasan plays the role of Rangan, who is a post graduate in search of job in the film, ‘Varumayin Niram Sivappu’. Rangan is a Tamilian living in Delhi along with two other unemployed Tamil friends. Another Tamilian joins them, who is also in search of a job. Rangan can’t accept any false doings and confronts anyone straight ahead. Rangan crosses paths with Devi in few occasions and they both start liking each other. Devi is an actress in stage plays for living and she has a drunkard father, who is always annoying her for money. Devi learns Rangan and his friends are living in utter poverty and don’t even have enough money for food. She tries helping them by offering a role for Rangan, by introducing him to a play director Prathap. But, Rangan disagrees with a few scenes written by Pratap and denies the role. Rangan apologises Devi for what he did and explains about his inherited attitude problem. Rangan’s father is a renowned Carnatic singer. He always insults Rangan for not being able to get into a job, being a post graduate. Angry Rangan sells his father’s musical instrument and buys train ticket for leaving to Delhi. He leaves home and shifts to Delhi, by arguing with his father. Director Pratap is obsessed about Devi, but feels jealous and angered because of the closeness in between Devi and Rangan.
