Anand (Kamal Hassan) is a rich, spoiled young man who drinks and gambles away his inheritance after his parents die. One night, he gets into a fight, but a stranger named Selvam (Radha Ravi) saves him and takes him home. Anand, drunk, makes Selvam stay the night but remembers nothing the next day. His servant Mani (Janagaraj) and accountant Nagapillai (VK Ramasamy) help Selvam. Grateful, Anand hires Selvam as his personal assistant. Anand falls for Nagapillai's niece, Geetha (Ambika). Geetha organizes Anand's messy house, and he hires her as the caretaker. Anand tells Selvam he loves Geetha. Selvam then lies, saying his lover has cancer and needs money. Soft-hearted Anand promises to help and gives Selvam money for her treatment. Meanwhile, Anand's drinking causes jaundice, and the doctor warns him to stop.
