Velu (Kamal Hassan) is a farmer. Ramaiah and Parvathi are landlords in the same village. Velu lives with his father and sister. Velu's father has also borrowed money from Ramaiah. Parvathi tricks poor farmers and takes their land. Their children, Pazhani (Raveendran) and Geetha (Ambika) come home for holidays from the city. Geetha and Velu quarrel a lot. Velu's father pays the money back to Pazhani. Pazhani lies and says he didn't get it. Velu gets angry and hits him. Ramaiah tells Velu to calm down. An angry Pazhani kidnaps and hurts Velu's sister, Valli (Tulasi), to get even. Valli wants to marry Pazhani to fix her honour. Velu begs Pazhani, but he refuses to marry her. Velu decides to teach Ramaiah's famly a lesson. Ramaiah and Parvathi meet Sundaram, a rich man, at a party. Sundaram is really Velu in disguise. Parvathi wants her children to marry Sundaram's children. They get married. Then, Velu and Valli reveal who they are. To know what happens after this marriage, watch the film. Kamal Hassan gives a powerful performance. Ambika is pretty and acts well as Geetha. The other actors have also done a decent job. There are some funny sequences with YG Mahendran.
