Shiva (Madhavan) lives in a small town and comes to Chennai to go to college. He stays with his sister (Anu Hasan) and her husband (Raghuvaran). Shiva doesn't like his brother-in-law and never talks to him for a trivial reason. Shiva meets Priya (Meera Jasmine) on a bus. He sees her several times and asks her to be his girlfriend. Priya likes him, too, but she tells him to stop following her. Shiva finds out that Priya's brother, Bhaskar (Atul Kulkarni), is a local goon. Priya doesn't want Shiva to get hurt, so she tells him to leave her alone. Bhaskar's friends see Shiva and Priya together and try to attack Shiva. Shiva fights them off. This makes Priya brave enough to stand up to her brother. Shiva's brother-in-law learns that Shiva is in love. He offers to help Shiva. This makes Shiva and his brother-in-law finally talk to each other, which makes Shiva's sister very happy. Bhaskar comes to attack Shiva's family.
