Seetha (Seetha) lives a simple life with her father, a Tamil teacher, in their village near Coimbatore. Her older sister killed herself because her husband's family harassed her for dowry. Because of this and his poor finances, Seetha's father struggles to find a husband for her. One day, he meets Ram (Pandiyan), a bank worker, and introduces him to Seetha. After some time, Ram and Seetha decide to get married. Ram's mother doesn't like Seetha because her family didn't give any dowry and often insults her. Seetha puts up with this because she loves Ram, but her father kills himself, unable to bear seeing his daughter suffer. Ram invites his new boss, Rajasekar (Rajasekar), home for lunch. Rajasekar is attracted to Seetha, but she stays away from him. Meanwhile, Ram's sister gets pregnant by Ram's friend, and their families want them to marry. Unable to pay for the wedding, Ram steals money from the bank. Rajasekar catches him and says he will forgive Ram and not tell the police if Ram lets him sleep with Seetha. Furious, Ram beats up Rajasekar and leaves. The next day, Rajasekar is found dead, and the police arrest Ram for murder. Seetha decides to ask David (Pratap Pothen), a criminal lawyer and her father's friend, for help, but finds out David has moved. Seetha finds another lawyer for Ram and starts working as a model for a painter to pay the legal fees. She also helps Ram's mother and sister financially. However, Ram's mother insults Seetha, accusing her of being a prostitute. To know how the story unfolds from here, watch the film. Pudhumai Penn is a social drama with a message.
