



Manickam (Rajinikanth) is a good-hearted but troublesome guy. Uma (Radhika), an orphan, runs into his house to hide from criminals. Manickam saves her from them and learns she is missing. He rescues her one more time from her abusive uncle, and they get married. Manickam promises Uma he will stop being violent and surrenders himself to the police for his past actions. Manickam is released from jail when his daughter Priya (Thulasi) is born. Gangadharan, a police friend, gives Manickam a job at his factory. When Gangadharan faces bankruptcy and plans to close the factory, Manickam convinces him to give him a chance to save it. Through hard work, Manickam pays off all the debts. As a token of love, Gangadharan gives all his wealth to Manickam before he dies. Years later, Manickam successfully runs the factory and manages Gangadharan's family's finances. However, Gangadharan's spoiled son, Vinod (Karthik), dislikes Manickam, thinking he stole his father's business. Vinod tries to get revenge by tricking Priya. He manipulates and marries her, causing Manickam and Uma great sadness, and Priya becomes distant from them. Uma later dies of a heart attack.
