




Kaalaiyan (Rajinikanth) is a good man in his village. He lives with his four brothers. Sundaravelu (Jaishankar) is a rich man in the next village, but he is not honest. He is eager to snatch Kaalaiyan's land. He sends his helper, Saamipillai (Surulirajan), asking for Kaalaiyan to sell the land at any rate he wishes to. But he denies the proposal. Saamipillai gives an idea to get this piece of land. He knows Kaalaiyan is a great bull tamer. He tells Sundaravelu to organise a bull-taming contest. The winner will get to marry Sundaravelu's sister, Soundaryam (Sumalatha). Kaalaiyan wins but refuses to marry Soundaryam because he knows Sundaravelu's plan. Soundaryam loves Kaalaiyan and is sad. Sundaravelu is angry. Sundaravelu loves a girl named Kannamma (Rati Agnihotri). She says no to him. He tries to hurt her, so she goes to Kaalaiyan for help. Kaalaiyan lets her stay. She helps with the house, and Kaalaiyan's brothers like her. They want Kaalaiyan to marry Kannamma. To know what happens next, watch the film. Murattu Kaalai is written well.
