




Tulasi (Radha) is a young woman living in a village. She is happy to receive a letter from her cousin Subramani (Mohan), who was her close childhood friend before moving to the city with his family. Subramani returns to the village to work on his college project, which is about folk songs. Tulasi is in love with Subramani but doesn't know if he feels the same way. She feels worried when Subramani returns to Madras. Later, Tulasi's father dies of a heart attack all of a sudden. Subramani's father wants Subramani to marry Tulasi. But, Subramani refuses to this marriage. Upset by his refusal, Tulasi's mother dies, too. The story then reveals Subramani's past. He was in love with Noorjahan (Amala), a student at his college. Because Noorjahan always wore a veil, Subramani had never seen her face. On the day they planned to finally meet properly, Noorjahan accidentally fell into quicksand and died.
