





Maryan is an aggressive fisherman from a small village in Kanyakumari district. He has an auspicious bond with the sea and proudly calls himself the king of the ocean. Panimalar is a mischievous girl from the same village. Panimalar falls in love with Maryan and confesses her love to him, but Maryan doesn’t respond. Maryan tries to ignore Panimalar, but she finds silly reasons to be close to him. This eventually leads to Maryan falling for her. Theekkurissi, a local money lender, wants to marry Panimalar; he tells her dad that he wouldn’t ask for the loan amount if he marries his daughter. Panimalar and Maryan can’t live without each other. To overcome this financial crisis and help Panimalar, Maryan is forced to take a two-year contract-based employment in Sudan. He requests Panimalar to wait for him until he returns. He completes his tenure and packs his bag to return to his love, but tragedy strikes in the form of Sudanese extremists, who end up kidnapping Maryan and two of his co-workers, demanding money for their freedom. Maryan tried to escape and got lost in the desert, where he suffered dehydration. Other two friends were shot dead by extremists. Maryan doesn’t lose hope, keeps fighting for life, and tries to find a way out of the barren land.
