Balakrishnan (Pasupathy) is a poor barber in a small village with his wife, Sridevi (Meena), and three kids. He has a small shop, unlike Shanmugam (Vadivelu), another barber with a bigger shop and employees. Balakrishnan lives a pathetic, poor life. Suddenly, he comes to know that famous actor Superstar Ashok Kumar (Rajinikanth) will be in town to film movies. When Ashok Kumar arrives with other actors like Nayanthara and Vijayakanth, the village welcomes them warmly. Balakrishnan tells his wife that 30 years ago, he and Ashok Kumar were best friends but lost touch. Initially, his family doesn't believe him and teases him. However, he makes them trust his words. His family wants to meet Ashok Kumar and take a photograph with him. Balakrishnan promises his family that he will make their wish come true. Balakrishnan is worried Ashok might have forgotten him because rich and famous people often forget their past. Shanmugam and his wife also try to get a photo with Ashok Kumar but fail.
