Kobbari Bondam is a 1991 Telugu comedy that showcases the journey of Raju (played by Rajendra Prasad). Raju is a timid and overly innocent young man, affectionately nicknamed "Kobbari Bondam" due to his gentle nature. Raju falls deeply in love with Meghamala at first sight. Driven by his affection, he approaches her with a marriage proposal. Meghamala, wanting to tease him, sets seemingly impossible conditions: Raju should get a stable job and give five lakh rupees as a "reverse dowry." Raju, despite being in the middle of his studies, takes up the challenge. He takes on a job as an assistant to Sarvanamam (Kota Srinivas Rao), a cunning person involved in the illegal trade. In a cruel twist of fate, Sarvanamam's son, Suresh, steals the five lakhs from Raju and shifts the blame onto him. All these events lead to Sarvanamam holding Raju's mother hostage until the five lakhs are returned. Raju faces an even greater predicament - he has to collect ten lakh rupees - 5 lakhs to free his mother and five lakhs to win Meghamala's hand. His desperate quest for money leads him to seek help from his Professor, who guides him in the search for hidden treasures. During this search, Raju discovers an ancient and mysterious coin. The rest of the film hilariously unfolds as Raju, armed with the confidence from the magical coin, transforms into a more assertive and resourceful individual, navigating comical situations and overcoming obstacles to save his mother and prove his worth to Meghamala and her family, even adopting an "obese" disguise for certain escapades. It's a heartwarming tale of self-belief, love, and triumph against odds, wrapped in layers of classic Telugu comedy.
