Karthikeya is a 2014 Telugu mystery thriller. The film is credited for its compelling storytelling blending scientific rationale with ancient legend. The story follows Karthik (Nikhil Siddhartha), an inquisitive medical student with a strong belief in logic and science. He often dismisses anything that cannot be explained rationally. His logical mindset is tested when he and his friends are assigned to a medical camp in Subramanyapuram; a village shrouded in an unsettling mystery. The village is home to an ancient, revered Subrahmanya Swami temple, which has been inexplicably closed for years following a series of mysterious deaths, all attributed to poisonous snake bites. Anyone attempting to investigate these fatalities or venture near the closed temple seems to meet a similar, unfortunate end, leading the superstitious villagers to believe the temple is cursed. Karthik, however, is deeply intrigued rather than deterred by the local legends. His natural curiosity drives him to explore mysterious events, motivated by his scientific mindset to uncover logical explanations for what others see as supernatural. His exploration leads him to a diary belonging to an Endowments Department official, Shankar (Raja Ravindra). Shankar previously tried to unearth the temple's secrets but tragically met his end under similar mysterious circumstances. This discovery intensifies his motive. Karthik soon finds himself embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy involving a precious diamond hidden within the temple and a nefarious plot staged by an endowment officer named Prudhvi Raj (Rao Ramesh). He creates several mysterious events to make the villagers believe that the temple is cursed. The rest of the plot is about how Karthik reveals the true culprits behind the curse and the mysterious deaths.
