Saravanan (Vetri) is the main character in the movie Jiivi. He is a unique character because he quit school, believing that learning from real life is true knowledge. He is also curious and likes to read books and watch informative shows instead of just entertainment. He doesn't worry too much about right and wrong. When he and his roommate, Mani (Karunakaran), decide to steal from their landlady, who has a sick husband and a blind daughter, Mani asks if he is afraid of God. Saravanan replies by asking if God cared when they were having a hard time. He doesn't even feel bad when the neighbour they blamed for the theft becomes their friend. What's special about Jiivi is that it doesn't make Saravanan look like a god or a devil. The movie just shows his actions without judging him. The director, VJ Gopinath, and the writer, Babu Tamizh, are more interested in showing how smart Saravanan is and the strange situation he gets into later in the movie. They clearly explain a tricky idea called synchronicity, using Mani's character to make it sound like a normal conversation. They also create suspense in small ways, keeping the viewers interested. Saravanan does a fantastic job. Karunakaran gives a decent performance. The other actors include Ashwini Chandrashekar, Monica Chinnakotla, Rohini, and Mime Gopi. All of them have acted well. The movie is written interestingly. Overall, Jiivi is a memorable thriller.
