Harichandra is a mythological film. Harichandra (Sivaji Ganesan) is the king of Ayodhya. He always speaks the truth and keeps his promises. He values his word more than anything. Viswamithran (MN Nambiar), a sage who doesn’t like another sage named Vashista, said he could make Harichandra lie or break his promise. Viswamithran asked Harichandra to give him his kingdom, saying Harichandra had promised it in a dream. Harichandra believed the sage and gave him the kingdom. Then, Harichandra and his family moved to Kasi. Viswamithran sent someone named Nachandra (KA Thangavelu) to ask for money that kings usually give to sages. Harichandra had no money, so he sold his wife and son to pay. But Nachandra wanted more money for his trouble. Harichandra then sold himself to pay. Viswamithran tried to make Harichandra suffer. He made it seem like Harichandra's son died. He also made people think Harichandra's wife killed the prince. Harichandra had to be the one to punish her. But Harichandra did everything without complaining or lying. What happens in the end is told in a gripping narration. Sivaji Ganesan, as usual, delivers a power-packed performance as Harichandra. The other actors, MN Nambiar, Thangavelu, TS Balaiah, VK Ramasamy, and G Varalakshmi, have done a great job, too. If you are looking for a well-made mythological movie, Harichandra is a great choice.
