Guna (Kamal Hassan) is a patient in a mental hospital. Another patient tells him a story about a woman named Abhirami, which gets stuck in Guna's head. He starts to believe she is a goddess and dreams of marrying her on a full moon. After a mental exam, his doctor says he can leave, but Guna keeps looking for Abhirami. His mother runs a brothel because his father left her. Her brother-in-law helps her. A girl who works there, Rosy (Rekha), loves Guna and wants to marry him, but he doesn't feel the same way. Guna is good at opening locks, and his uncle-in-law often uses him for stealing. The uncle-in-law plans to rob a temple donation box to pay his sister's rent. When he takes Guna to practice, Guna sees a rich woman (Roshini) at the temple. She looks like the Abhirami he imagined, so he goes to her. She smiles and gives him sweets, which makes him sure she is Abhirami. On the day of the robbery, a lot of unfortunate things happen, and Guna ends up disappearing into the mountains with the rich woman. What happens after that is told in an interesting screenplay. The other actors are Janagaraj, SP Balasubramanyam, Girish Karnad, Ananthu, Ajay Ratnam, and S Varalakshmi. Guna is a great watch you can enjoy with your family.
