The story of Ghatana is about a young woman named Malini (Nithya Menen). She is a nursing student who wants to move to Canada for a better life. To help with her move, she meets a man named Varun (Krish J. Sathaar). Varun works at a travel agency. Soon, Malini and Varun fall in love and start living together. Malini trusts him completely. However, Malini’s life takes a very dark turn. A powerful man named Prakash (Naresh), who is Varun's boss, assaults and rapes Malini. This happens twice. Malini is deeply hurt, but she soon discovers an even worse truth. Varun was not her protector. He was actually a criminal who helped Prakash trap her. To hide their crime, they put drugs in her bag and get her arrested. While in prison, Malini learns that Varun has cheated many women before. She meets a brave inmate who helps her find her strength. When Malini is finally released, she is no longer an innocent dreamer. She becomes a strong woman who wants justice. She finds Prakash and kills him. Then, she goes to find Varun. She tricks him and uses her medical skills to perform a painful surgery on him as punishment. In the end, Malini finally leaves for Canada, leaving her painful past behind.
