Friends is a remake of a Malayalam movie. Aravindan (Vijay), Chandru (Suriya), and Krishnamoorthy (Ramesh Khanna) are very close friends. They value their friendship above everything else. Aravindan is a rich guy with a large family. Chandru is an orphan who lives with Aravindan's family. Aravindan's sister, Amudha (Vijayalakshmi) falls in love with Chandru. But, Chandru refuses her love due to his friendship with Aravindan and his loyalty to his family. At one point, Aravindan and Chandru hide in Chennai. They work as apprentice painters with Krishnamoorthy's uncle (Vadivelu) in a bungalow. Aravindan falls in love with Padmini (Devayani), a girl in that house. When Padmini gets engaged to another man, some problem breaks her engagement. Padmini starts believing that it was Chandru who did this to help Aravindan's love. So, Padmini becomes angry with Chandru. She knows that the most precious thing for him is his friendship with Aravindan. So, she decides to break that friendship by marrying Aravidan. This marriage creates a rift in the friendship between the three friends. Does Padmini realize her mistake? What happens between Chandru and Amudha? Do the split friends reunite? To know the answers, watch the film. The ending is surprising. There are many hilarious moments in the film.
