Kanal (GV Prakash Kumar) is a village-based guy. He is forced by his father to join an engineering course in the city. He soon learns that his dad had paid a hefty amount to secure his engineering seat. Within a few weeks, Kanal takes up a few part-time jobs to meet his growing expenses in the city. Sooner, he learns an easy way to make money quickly. It is by selling off college seats and earning commission. Ravi Varma (Gautham Menon) is a local thug, the college’s former student, who runs this business, and Kanal and his classmate Nazir (DG Gunanithi) work under him. Ravi has several enemies, including the son-in-law of the management chairman. The rest of the movie is about how the lives of Kanal and Ravi intersect and what happens to them. The action sequences of the film are executed brilliantly. Madhavi (Varsha Bollamma) is Kanal’s girlfriend but doesn’t have a major role to play. Mona (Vidya Pradeep) is Ravi’s wife. Women don’t get to play a significant part in the movie. The characters of GV Prakash and Gautam Menon are written well. Both of them have a stunning screen presence. The rest of the actors in the movie have delivered impressive performances as well. Selfie explores a less travelled road – the college admission racket, especially in medical and engineering colleges. Selfie is a good Tamil movie to watch with family and friends.
