It's 1895 in a small village called Nandamuru. A young boy named Viswanatha Satyanarayana (played by L.B. Sriram) is born to a rich landowner, Sobhanadri (Ramajogayya Sastry). He grows up surrounded by village life, learning from the local street performers and storytellers. He becomes very interested in Telugu books and poems. When he's a student, Viswanatha learns from a famous poet, Chellapilla Venkata Sastry. He becomes proficient in both traditional and modern styles of writing. He starts writing his own poems and stories. His writings focus on history, ideas, and culture. Later, Viswanatha becomes a teacher at SRR College in Vijayawada. There, he writes Ramayana Kalpavrukshamu, which wins him the Janpith Award. He's also known for his strong opinions. He also wrote beautiful poems about nature. Viswanatha becomes friends with one of his students, N.T. Rama Rao (played by Sampath), who later becomes a famous actor. Viswanatha's stories even inspire some of N.T. Rama Rao's movies, like Ekaveera. Some people criticise Viswanatha for adhering to traditional practices, but he defends the Telugu language and culture. Viswanatha has a dream to fix up the old Sivalayam temple in his village, and he works hard to make it happen, even though he doesn't have much money. In his old age, people honour him with the title ""Kavi Samrat,"" which means ""Emperor of Poets."" He looks back at his life and how he went from listening to village stories to becoming a star in the world of Telugu literature.
