Sardar opens with information about a spy in 1983 who has gone rogue. Cut to the present to meet the spy's son, Vijay Prakash (Karthi). He is a cop who is popular for his publicity stunts. He is haunted by the thought that his father is a traitor. The story takes shape when Samira (Laila) dies under mysterious circumstances. She was an activist fighting against the privatisation of water bodies. When Vijay Prakash tries to hunt the suspects, he sees danger to the nation. He investigates on the matter. Rathore (Chunky Pandey) is the man behind this danger. Vijay Prakash learns that only his dad can bust Rathore's disastrous plans. All the actors deliver power-packed performances. The film also passes along an essential social message to the audience. Karthi plays a dual role, that of the father and son. He excels in both roles. Rajisha Vijayan and Raashi Khanna play the female leads in the film. They have nothing much to offer, though. Other important characters in the movie include Karthi's romantic interest, a child who provides a suitable emotional reason to propel the hero's mission, and a good-hearted guardian. As a social media frenzy, Son Karthi captures the audience's attention in the first half. However, the plot soon goes through twists and turns, which makes for a decent action drama. Sardar is a convincing watch you can enjoy with your family and friends.
