Rail is a movie about a man named Muthaiah (Kungumaraj) who lives in a village near Madurai. He drinks alcohol all the time, and his wife, Chellama (Vairamala), really dislikes it. His friend Varadhan (Ramesh Vaidya) usually drinks with him every day. Their neighbour, Sunil, is a worker who came from Mumbai. He is a hard worker and a nice person. Muthaiah doesn't like Sunil and other people who have moved to the village from other places. He blames them for his troubles. When Sunil dies in a motorcycle accident, Muthaiah's life gets even worse, but later on, he tries to become a better person. The movie shows Muthaiah as a man who is a useless drunk. However, it also tries to show that he is a good father. He has the ability to work and make his life better, but he spends his time drinking and complaining instead. The story revolves around in the same places: Muthaiah's house, some bushes, and the place where he drinks. The movie tries to tell a story about Muthaiah changing for the better. His wife and his father-in-law forgive him easily after he steals money from Sunil. They try to change him to become better. Kungumaraj and Vairamala act well in their roles. Ramesh Vaidya's acting is okay, and some of the jokes his character tells are funny. Overall, Rail is a movie about social issues that you can watch for the message it tries to send.
