Mayaanadhi is the Telugu-dubbed version of a Malayalam movie. Mathan (Tovino Thomas) is a small-time thief in Chennai. After a robbery goes wrong and he has to run, he wants to leave his criminal life behind. He meets up again with Aparna (Aishwarya Lekshmi), whom he loved in college. Their strong feelings for each other come back, but Mathan doesn't tell Aparna about his dangerous past because he's afraid she'll leave him if she knows. They spend secret time together, dreaming about their future. But Mathan's old gang, led by a mean guy named Shyam (Harish Uthaman), is looking for him because they think he betrayed them. Meanwhile, Aparna gets a part in a movie, but her cousin Sameera causes problems, and the pressures of the movie business make it hard for Aparna. Mathan tries to become a good person by doing different small jobs, but his past finds him when a police officer, Kumar (Soubin Shahir), starts following him because Shyam told him where to look. Aparna discovers that Mathan is a criminal, which causes a fight between them. But she still loves him and doesn't know what to do. In an exciting chase through the rough parts of Chennai, Mathan tries not to get caught. Aparna has a bad experience where someone in the movie business tries to take advantage of her, and she fights to stay true to herself. Their stories come together in a sad and intense ending.
