In a village in Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan (Vijay Sethupathi) is an auto driver. He lives happily with his wife, Savithri (Gayathrie), and their two children. Radhakrishnan wants his kids to have a better education, so he plans to send them to a private school. To pay for this, he teams up with a real estate agent named Madhavan. Radhakrishnan promises to help Madhavan sell plots of land to the villagers. But Madhavan is a cheat. He runs away with all the money, leaving Radhakrishnan to face the villagers' wrath and get into legal trouble. Feeling lost and hopeless, Radhakrishnan flees to Kerala to escape the police. Back in his village, Savithri has a hard time raising their kids by herself. In Kerala, Radhakrishnan befriends a widow and her daughter. He lives quietly, but he always feels guilty about what happened. We see flashbacks of his simple life in his village, including his friend Ismail (Guru Somasundaram) and a bedtime story about love that he used to tell his daughter. Years later, Radhakrishnan sees Madhavan again. Madhavan is now a beggar and asks Radhakrishnan to forgive him. When Madhavan kills himself by drowning, it affects Radhakrishnan. A priest tells Radhakrishnan that he is a great soul. Savithri, with the priest's help, locates Radhakrishnan again, and they visit their grown-up daughter. The story takes place in the countryside of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. To know how the movie ends, watch Maha Manishi.
