Jiivi 2 continues the story from Jiivi 1. Saravanan (Vetri) marries Kavitha, his house owner's daughter, who is blind. Saravanan helps Mani (Karunakaran) open his own tea shop by the road. He also becomes a driver, with help from Sivagami's (Kavitha's mother) younger brother, Kathir (Mime Gopi). Meanwhile, Kavitha is getting ready for expensive treatment to fix her eyes. Their happy lives start to fall apart one night when Saravanan sees thugs chasing Kathir and saves him. Kathir says that his business failed, and he borrowed money using Sivagami's house as security. He can't pay back the loan, and the lenders want the house. Sivagami, worried about her brother, agrees to give up their home. Sivagami's family depends on Saravanan for their living. Feeling he has no other choice, Saravanan forces Mani to help him steal from their friend Hari's house. Hari is a wealthy and irresponsible university student. The following morning, Saravanan and Mani are scared when they find Hari dead in his home. The police officer in charge of the case thinks Saravanan and Mani might be responsible since they were Hari's best mates. However, Hari's grandmother gives the officer a recording of a group of men attacking and killing Hari. Soon after the murder, Kavitha's father passes away unexpectedly. Saravanan's niece loses her sight. The shock of these events causes Saravanan's brother-in-law to have fits. Kavitha then tells Saravanan that she is pregnant. Saravanan is worried that a similar pattern of bad luck is affecting his family again. The rest of the film focuses on how he resolves the problems.
