"Athadu" is a family entertainer with an action undertone about Nandu, an orphan child raised by gangsters who grows up to be a professional hitman. He and his partner, Malli, get hired by politician Siva Reddy to fake an assassination attempt to gain sympathy votes. However, the plan goes wrong when Siva is actually killed, making Nandu the prime suspect. After losing Malli in an accident, Nandu escapes the police by jumping onto a train. There, he meets Parthasarthy "Pardhu," who returns to his hometown after twenty years of running away as a child. The search party shoots at Nandu on the train but kills Pardhu instead. Nandu arrives at Pardhu's house to inform his family about the accident. However, they mistakenly think he is Pardhu and welcome him into their home without knowing who he really is. While he enjoys their kindness, he struggles with his true identity. Nandu helps them with various issues, like protecting their farm and assisting a nearby family. At the same time, CBI officer Anjaneya Prasad Sharma works hard to uncover the truth about Siva Reddy's murder. What will happen when Prasad starts connecting the clues that lead to Nandu? Nandu's past puts Pardhu's family at risk, and he knows he must confront the truth about what he has done. What secret is Nandu keeping? Can he prove he is innocent?
