Prabha (Jyothika) is a spirited documentary filmmaker in Chennai. She lives with her future mother-in-law, Gomatha (Urvashi), a retired teacher. Gomatha misses her school friends, Rani (Bhanupriya) and Subbu (Saranya Ponvannan), whom she hasn’t seen in nearly 40 years. In their youth, the trio shared joyful times at a Catholic hostel but lost touch after Rani and Subbu were expelled for sneaking out to watch a movie. Prabha, touched by Gomatha’s longing, plans a surprise three-day trip to reunite them. Rani, now in Agra, is married to a politician (Nassar) and lives a restricted life. Subbu is a beautician and is trapped in a boring marriage with her drunkard husband (Livingston). Prabha tricks the women into joining the trip, sparking funny and chaotic moments. As they travel, the friends rediscover their bond, sharing old memories and facing new adventures. The journey helps them face personal struggles—Gomatha’s loneliness, Rani’s lack of freedom, and Subbu’s loveless life. Prabha’s bold spirit inspires them to reclaim their dreams. The trip ends with emotional farewells, but the women return home stronger, challenging the men who limit them. The story celebrates friendship and women’s strength, showing how a simple getaway can spark big change. Maguvalu Matrame is a nice film to watch with your family.
